Do Silk Pillowcases Work?

We could all use a little luxury. I’ve been obsessed with beauty tips since I discovered red lipstick a a small child. As time passed, I became more focused on healthy skin and hair. I’ve seen beauty fanatics talk about sleeping on your back to prevent wrinkles. Even my chiropractor said it is the best position to sleep in for spinal health. Yet, there’s something about rolling over onto my side that really knocks me out when I have a hard time falling asleep. I’d heard about using silk pillowcases to prevent wrinkles and to keep hair from becoming a tangled, matted mess but there were two reasons I didn’t give it much thought. The first reason: the price. I just opened a catalog to find a silk pillowcase being sold for $45. I didn’t have $45 worth of curiosity to go any further. The second reason is: I hate being cold. I like a cotton or even better, cotton flannel bedding to warm myself up with. The thought of putting my face on cold bedding was not tempting.
Then I had the chance to try one of Tafts silk pillowcases. I chose the rose color and hand washed it before using. I found it stayed wrinkled even after a night sleeping on it and I ironed the pillowcase according to the instructions and it came out very nice. I normally would not iron a pillowcase but I wanted to give it a test run. It’s very well made, with a nice substantial fabric, good stitching and a smooth zipper. I find that keeping it under the blankets all day hides any wrinkles, though it is really nice enough to show off with your bedding. I throw my comforter over everything and it keeps the pillowcase at a good temperature. It also warms to my face quickly at night.
After using Tafts silk pillowcase for a couple of weeks, I can see that I don’t have creases on my face in the morning. What bigger selling point could there be when all I had to do was swap out my pillowcase? I sleep with my hair loosely up so I couldn’t say if it makes hair smoother and less tangled.
Tafts silk pillowcases come in three sizes and ten colors. They are extremely soft and a nice piece of quality bedding. They can be found here.
