Summer Skin With Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe’s is known for classic as well as creative food at a decent price. It’s somewhat small for a supermarket, with a limited variety and fun seasonal items. That makes it great for people who want to get in and out without the paradox of choice (making no decision because there are too many choices.) Its tropical shirted staff does a great job of making it the happiest place on the strip mall. But have you tried their personal care products? I’ve tried several over the years. Here are a few that stood out among my collection. Note: Trader Joe’s does not offer online purchases but you can go on their site to check out their latest deals and prices and print out a shopping list, with prices local to your area. I tried this for the first time and we split up the printouts, making it home quickly to enjoy our stash.
Blueberry & Acai Facial Scrub
I’ve passed this little jar many times, as it is available all year. I honestly didn’t think it looked like anything special. I like a gritty scrub and find most fall flat. But this is so good that it earned first ranking in my skin care buys. It doesn’t have much grit to it but it has three kinds of acids, making more of a chemical than physical exfoliator. It smells like Joyva raspberry jelly rings and has a moisturizing texture. It leaves my skin fresh and looking lightly peeled. Gets all of the sunscreen buildup off, without irritation. As creamy as it is, moisturizer is a must afterwards. At under 6 bucks at my local TJ’s, this is my number one recommendation.
Ultra Hydrating Gel Moisturizer
Trader Joe’s claims this translucent gel was created after staff claimed they were still faithful to a higher priced gel moisturizer (Peter Thomas Roth?). It’s very good for skin that feels tight after a light peel. I love that it is dye and fragrance free. I probably need something thicker for the winter but in the summer, face cream feels thick and oppressive in the humidity. My face can sweat immediately under a creamy, waxy formula in a warm bathroom. This is lightweight, instantly absorbed and 100% greaseless. If someone has sensitive, oily skin, this would be my first recommendation for a moisturizer. It is also the perfect layer under sunscreen. $8.99 at my local TJ’s.
Hydrating Hyaluronic Body Gel Cream
This truly is a creamy gel formula. It is dye free and although fragrance is not on the ingredients, it smells faintly of honeysuckle to me, perhaps due to some of the natural elements added. I don’t like fragrance and this is barely noticeable. Surprisingly, I found it to be more moisturizing than the facial gel. At night, I put a little around my eye and neck area for extra hydration. It absorbs very quickly after showering. I also plan on experimenting to see if it can be a carrier base for essential oils. I would like to mix them together so I can skip rubbing oil into my skin in the summer. The only down side is that I was unable to get the pump unlocked so I replaced it with a flip cap from a trial sized bottle. Somewhat moderately priced at $6.99 for 12 oz, I haven’t seen anything else like it for the body. It would be great to soothe and hydrate post beach skin.
If you haven’t yet tried Trader Joe’s line of personal care products, I recommend them as well priced and often unique.
